The Commissioner General of Prisons is appointed by the Head of State in consultation with the Public Service Commission and is responsible to the Cabinet Secretary and the Principle Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National government for the following:

 

The Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons is the Principal Assistant to and responsible to Commissioner General of Prisons for the following duties and responsibilities:-

 

The Personal Assistant to Commissioner General of Prisons (CGP) will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the CGP in the interpretation and implementation of the existing and new policy guidelines on Prisons,
  • Maintaining of CGP’s diary including recording and follow up on key functions to be attended such as meetings, appointments, media briefings, external travels etc,
  • Recording of strategic decisions and action points during functions addressed by
  • Compiling and editing letters, talking notes, speeches, reports and presentations for the attention of CGP,
  • Facilitating appointments and visits to the office of the CGP,
  • Analyzing reports and presentations in summary notes for the attention of CGP,
  • Coordinating internal and external linkages with national, regional and international stakeholders on issues related to prisons,
  • Attending to all inquiries and correspondences linking Kenya Prisons Service and the Permanent Mission of Kenya to the United Nations in consultation with the CGP and the DCGP,
  • Participating in special exercises initiated by the CGP including recruitments, prisons inspection/assessment visits, study tours and passing out parades,
  • Any other duties assigned by the CGP from time to time
