External Validation Exercise for the Kenya Prisons Service

External Validation of KPS Policies at Kenya School of Government, Kabete.

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, CBS, today officially presided over the opening of the External Validation Exercise for the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) policies at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Kabete.

The exercise has brought together key stakeholders drawn from the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ), Court Users Committees, civil society organizations, and representatives from across the justice sector.

The policies under validation include:
1.Gender and SGBV Policy
2.Rehabilitation and Reintegration Policy
3.Modernization Strategy and Plan
4.Training and Needs Assessment Policy
5.Staff Welfare and Disability Policy
6.Communication Policy
7.Anti-Corruption Policy

In his remarks, the Commissioner General emphasized that the policies will play a critical role in driving the modernization of the Service. He noted that they will strengthen infrastructure development, enhance staff and inmate welfare, address emerging training needs, promote accountability, and support the digitization of services. He further underscored the importance of stakeholder input in developing clear, coherent frameworks to guide the transformation of the Kenya Prisons Service.

The development of these policies is supported by the European Union under the PLEAD II Programme, implemented in partnership with UNODC.
