The Directorate has the following sections/units:

• Recruits Training School
• Junior officer Training School
• Senior Officers Training School
• Prisons Band

• Train recruits
• Train prison officers attending refresher courses, promotion courses, development courses and managerial courses
• Develop training curriculum
• Establish linkages for staff development with other stakeholders especially institutions of higher learning
• Provide ceremonial support for civil events
• Perform at National functions and prisons observance
